A Teoria do Self Informacional (TSI) propõe que aquilo a que chamamos Self — a experiência subjectiva de ser uma entidade contínua, singular e autorreferencial — não é uma substância nem um epifenómeno neural, mas uma estrutura informacional emergente que se institui, estabiliza e pode colapsar segundo as mesmas leis que regem toda a organização informacional no Corpus Informacional de Vitor Lima.

The Theory of the Informational Self (TSI) proposes that what we call the Self — the subjective experience of being a continuous, singular and self-referential entity — is neither a substance nor a neural epiphenomenon, but an emergent informational structure that constitutes itself, stabilises and can collapse according to the same laws that govern all informational organisation within Vitor Lima's Informational Corpus.

A TSI emerge da necessidade de explicar, à luz do Corpus Informacional, um fenómeno empiricamente robusto e teoricamente negligenciado: a amnésia infantil. Porque razão os seres humanos não retêm memórias episódicas dos primeiros três a quatro anos de vida? A neurociência convencional apela ao desenvolvimento incompleto do hipocampo. A TSI propõe uma resposta mais profunda: não havia ainda Self suficientemente estabilizado para indexar experiência.

The TSI emerges from the need to explain, through the lens of the Informational Corpus, an empirically robust yet theoretically neglected phenomenon: infantile amnesia. Why do human beings retain no episodic memories from their first three to four years of life? Conventional neuroscience appeals to the incomplete development of the hippocampus. The TSI proposes a deeper answer: there was not yet a sufficiently stabilised Self to index experience.

A amnésia infantil designa a incapacidade universal dos adultos de recuperar memórias episódicas dos primeiros dois a quatro anos de vida. O fenómeno é transculturalmente robusto e não se explica por simples imaturidade hipocampal — crianças nessa faixa etária formam memórias de curto prazo e demonstram aprendizagem condicionada. O que falha não é a capacidade de codificar informação, mas a capacidade de atribuir essa informação a um Self.

Infantile amnesia designates the universal inability of adults to retrieve episodic memories from their first two to four years of life. The phenomenon is transculturally robust and cannot be explained by mere hippocampal immaturity — children in that age range do form short-term memories and exhibit conditioned learning. What fails is not the capacity to encode information, but the capacity to attribute that information to a Self.

Na TSI, a memória episódica requer uma condição prévia: a existência de um Campo Informacional de Self (CIS) suficientemente estruturado para funcionar como campo de indexação. O CIS é o sub-conjunto do Campo Informacional de Contexto (CIC) que o organismo reserva para si próprio como agente.

Nos primeiros anos de vida, o CIS encontra-se em estado de Estabilidade Passiva (EP) — existe enquanto potencial informacional, mas ainda não atingiu a Estabilidade Activa (EA) necessária à auto-indexação coerente. A experiência ocorre, a informação circula, mas não existe ainda um Shake Hand Informacional (SHI) entre os padrões sensoriais e um núcleo de Self estabilizado. Sem esse acoplamento, a memória episódica — que é, por definição, memória na primeira pessoa — é estruturalmente impossível.

In the TSI, episodic memory requires a prior condition: the existence of a sufficiently structured Informational Self Field (ISF) to function as an indexing field. The ISF is the subset of the Informational Context Field (CIC) that the organism reserves for itself as agent.

In early life, the ISF exists in a state of Passive Stability (EP) — it exists as informational potential, but has not yet reached the Active Stability (EA) required for coherent self-indexing. Experience occurs, information circulates, but there is not yet an Informational Shake Hand (SHI) between sensory patterns and a stabilised Self-nucleus. Without this coupling, episodic memory — which is, by definition, memory in the first person — is structurally impossible.

A TSI propõe a existência de um Ponto de Inflexão Identitária (PII) — o momento desenvolvimental em que o CIS transita de EP para EA. Este ponto não é fixo nem simultâneo em todas as modalidades: a linguagem, a autoconsciência corporal e a narratividade atingem EA em momentos diferentes, convergindo progressivamente num Self integrado. A amnésia infantil corresponde ao período anterior ao PII.

The TSI proposes the existence of an Identity Inflection Point (IIP) — the developmental moment at which the ISF transitions from EP to EA. This point is neither fixed nor simultaneous across all modalities: language, bodily self-awareness and narrativity reach EA at different moments, progressively converging into an integrated Self. Infantile amnesia corresponds to the period prior to the IIP.

Esta leitura é empiricamente coerente com a observação de que a idade de extinção da amnésia infantil coincide aproximadamente com a emergência do reconhecimento no espelho (teste do ponto rouge, ~18–24 meses) e com o desenvolvimento da linguagem narrativa em primeira pessoa (~36–48 meses) — ambos indicadores de estabilização do CIS.

This reading is empirically coherent with the observation that the age at which infantile amnesia ends coincides approximately with the emergence of mirror self-recognition (rouge test, ~18–24 months) and the development of first-person narrative language (~36–48 months) — both indicators of ISF stabilisation.

The Self is not given — it is emerged. It emerges as an informational structure from the integration of sensory, mnesic and narrative patterns in an Informational Self Field (ISF) with sufficient internal coherence.

A memória episódica requer indexação identitária: só é possível recordar na primeira pessoa quando existe um Self estabilizado que funcione como campo de referência. Sem CIS em Estabilidade Activa, a memória é procedimental ou semântica, nunca episódica.

Episodic memory requires identity indexing: it is only possible to remember in the first person when there exists a stabilised Self functioning as a reference field. Without an ISF in Active Stability, memory is procedural or semantic, never episodic.

Personal identity is the functional illusion of ISF continuity over time. What persists is not a substance — it is a pattern of high resonant coherence (high RC) that self-renews while preserving a recognisable informational signature.

O CIS pode sofrer colapso parcial ou total quando a sua coerência interna é perturbada além de um limiar crítico. Estados como demências, dissociações severas, trauma identitário profundo e — durante o desenvolvimento — a amnésia infantil são manifestações de perturbação ou ausência do CIS.

The ISF can suffer partial or total collapse when its internal coherence is disrupted beyond a critical threshold. States such as dementias, severe dissociation, profound identity trauma and — during development — infantile amnesia are manifestations of ISF disturbance or absence.

TIT — fornece o quadro ontológico em que o Self é compreendido como organização informacional de alto nível emergindo dentro e através do substrato físico. A TIT envolve e penetra o OIC/U, e a TSI opera nessa tensão: o Self é um nó de organização informacional na superfície em que TIT e OIC/U se interpenetram.

OIC/U — establece que toda a realidade é informacionalmente estruturada. O Self, enquanto estrutura informacional, é um caso particular desta ontologia.

TRD — o Self pode ser lido como um processo contínuo de revelação selectiva: o CIS revela ao organismo aquilo que é relevante para si, filtrando o vasto campo informacional ambiental.

HEIC — a consciência (C = f(D, I, R)) é a expressão fenomenológica do CIS em Estabilidade Activa. TSI e HEIC são complementares: HEIC explica a consciência como emergência; TSI explica a identidade como estrutura que torna a consciência autobiográfica possível.

TIT — provides the ontological framework in which the Self is understood as high-level informational organisation emerging within and through physical substrate. TIT envelops and penetrates OIC/U, and the TSI operates in this tension: the Self is an informational organisation node at the surface where TIT and OIC/U interpenetrate.

OIC/U — establishes that all reality is informationally structured. The Self, as an informational structure, is a particular case of this ontology.

TRD — the Self can be read as a continuous process of selective revelation: the ISF reveals to the organism what is relevant to itself, filtering the vast ambient informational field.

HEIC — consciousness (C = f(D, I, R)) is the phenomenological expression of the ISF in Active Stability. TSI and HEIC are complementary: HEIC explains consciousness as emergence; TSI explains identity as the structure that makes autobiographical consciousness possible.

EP/EA — The Passive/Active Stability distinction is the central mechanism of the TSI: the ISF traverses this transition during development, and its oscillation explains both infantile amnesia (EP) and adult episodic memory (EA).

CR/RC — The Resonance Coefficient is the measure of ISF internal coherence. A high RC corresponds to a robust Self; a falling RC announces identity fragmentation.

II/AII — Informational Identity and its Adaptive variant define the conditions of Self continuity through substrate changes. The TSI extends these concepts to the domain of the psychological Self.

SHI — The Informational Shake Hand is the coupling mechanism between the ISF and sensory and mnesic patterns. Infantile amnesia results from the absence of this coupling.

PII/IIP — The Identity Inflection Point is a concept generated by the TSI itself: the developmental moment of the ISF's EP→EA transition, empirically correlating with mirror recognition and autobiographical narrative.
